Do you know about Snopes.com? It’s a site where you can check out internet warnings and rumors to see if they are true.
From Wikipedia: “Snopes.com /ˈsnoʊps/, also known as the Urban Legends Reference Pages, is a websitecovering urban legends, Internet rumors, e-mail forwards, and other stories of unknown or questionable origin.[2] It is a well-known resource for validating and debunking such stories in American popular culture,[3] receiving 300,000 visits a day.[4]“
I used to pass on all this stuff automatically because they usually involve somebody’s safety, but then I found out about Snopes. Now I check out stuff before I post it or forward it.
Out of the last nine warnings I checked only one happened to be true. The rest were hoaxes, some going back for a decade or more!
Perhaps if we catch this stuff and don’t pass it on some of the nuts who send out these hoaxes will stop.
